About the Author

The late Bruce W. Halstead, Director of the World Life Research Institute, was recognized internationally as one of the world's foremost authorities on marine biotoxicology and dangerous marine animals. Author of more than 290 scientific papers, articles, and books, his widely acclaimed monograph, Poisonous and Venomous Marine Animals of the World (Second Revised Edition, 1988), is probably the most comprehensive work ever published on the subject. He was a founding member of the Wilderness Medical Society and served on the Board of Advisors of the International Society of Aquatic medicine.

     Paul S. Auerbach, M.D., who collaborated on the section, "Prevention, First aid, and emergency Treatment Procedures," is an editor of the Journal of Wilderness Medicine, past president of the Wilderness Medical Society, and author of numerous scientific articles and books.
